Labor Supply, Demand & Wages

The characteristics of Cambodia's youthful population are obvious. In particular, the population of 10-35 years old exceeds half of the total population, and the labor resources are relatively abundant. Additionally, the current labor force population is 7.5 million, and the annual growth rate is 2.7%.

The Cambodian government sets minimum wage for the textile, apparel and footwear industries, and the rest of industries have no requirements. Since 2013, the minimum wage of garment factory and shoe factory workers has been increasing every year from US$61 to US$190 in 2020. However, due to the underdevelopment of the industrial sector and the lack of vocational training, Cambodia has insufficient professional and technical workers.

In 2017, the Cambodian Prime Minister’s office issued the “2017-2025 National Policy on Vocational Skills and Technical Training”, which aims at gradually improving the vocational skills and technical training system and creating more jobs to promote the sustainable development of the country’s social economy.
